Projects

I can generally be found making trouble anywhere that tech, organizing, and art overlap, and believe in the power of bringing people together to improve access to both.

Online Abortion Resource Squad

I helped to set up Online Abortion Resource Squad (OARS), a group of volunteers who organize to ensure every post on Reddit.com subreddits asking for abortion-related help gets a quality, accurate, compassionate answer.

People often go to the internet when they’re too nervous to call a hotline, don’t have time to sit on the phone, or otherwise have trouble locating resources. Our peer-based online counseling model helps ensure that in the enormous ocean of the internet, people can find the qualified practical, medical, or legal resources that best meet their needs.

Abortion Design Day

Our kickoff design day was held on May 2nd, 2020, with dozens of domain experts, designers, user experience researchers, and other volunteers coming together to define the shape of the problem, design needs and prompts, and identify the resources we can collect and create to support ongoing design work.

Our future events are held as ongoing online meetups, held every few weeks as virtual collaboration and cowork days. We also welcome volunteers to continue to create stock graphics on their own schedule. Please sign up to join us.

Abortion Access Hackathons

In March of 2017 I co-organized the SF Abortion Access Hackathon, which brought together reproductive rights professionals and organizers with hundreds of developers this past March to build tech tools to help expand their work. Since then I helped bring the Abortion Access Hackathon to New York and Austin.

Trapped Game

The "Trapped" game was in its original incarnation a card game, created by the outreach team at Women's Health Specialists in California, and expanded on by teams at the Abortion Access Hackathon.

I worked to bring this version to life as a dice-roll style game to light the relationship of delays and disruptions to accessing abortion as they affect the cost. This highlights the importance of the work of abortion funds, who work to close the gap and ensure that your rights do not depend on what's in your wallet.

Rosie’s Meats

Rosie’s Meats was a line of throw pillows I released in 2013 that looked like various cuts of meat. My first foray into seeing through a consumer product from design, supply chain, production, and e-commerce was a fun and exciting learning experience. These little meaty friends will always have a special place in my heart.
